About the Craft
The fascinating, centuries-old Japanese art of Kintsugi reinterpreted through the art of calligraphy. By integrating metal calligraphy patches into broken pottery vessels, a new life is instilled into objects that would be otherwise discarded while enhancing their aesthetic presence and elevating them to the level of art objects.
Salvaged from Lebanon, this is an antique ceramic vase with a traditional Phoenician shape. Restoration work has been deployed to repair the body and then repainted with a special dye obtained from seashells through traditional methods to achieve the deep purple hues.
Gold and bronze brush strokes and gold leaf touches emphasize the shape and the antique look of the artifact.
